PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet has been named Pantone® Color of the Year 2018. After a few years of questionable choices, marsala, rose quartz and serenity, I am absolutely thrilled with this gorgeous bold selection and cannot wait to start incorporating it into my upcoming events!

Why should Event Professionals be excited?

Because it represents everything we crave when creating concepts for our clients…

Described as a dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.

Complex and contemplative, Pantone 18-3838 Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.

“We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come” Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

How can you incorporate Ultra Violet into your next event?

Before you start painting the town purple, here are 10 ways you can incorporate Ultra Violet into your next event:

  • If you produce any one-off special events or events which recreate their look each year, incorporate it into their logo and branding
  • Special effect lighting on your stages
  • Uplighting on your walls
  • Chargers, napkins, runners, covers, crockery or place cards on your tables
  • Centerpieces
  • Theming and decor
  • Lounges, chairs or feature areas
  • Use mixed berries on your desserts or purple superfoods like acai berries, beetroot or purple potatoes, on your menu
  • Berry smoothies or a signature cocktail
  • Have your roving entertainment dress in purple or use purple makeup to finish off their look

HOT TIP: There is an entire wheel of colors that work perfectly with this hue. Mix it up a little and have fun – just because it’s the color of the year doesn’t mean it’s the only color you should use throughout your entire event.
